Welcome to tennis-pulse’s coverage of this 2017 US Open quarterfinal match between top seeded Rafael Nadal and Russian teenager Andrey Rublev.

Nadal was expected to be here, but for Rublev he has shocked and impressed the tennis world in dropping just one set on his way to the quarterfinals. His aggression and firepower were too much for both Grigor Dimitrov and David Goffin, both of whom were felled by Rublev in straight sets.

Nadal has looked better and better as the tournament has gone on, and he was impressive in a ruthless dismissal of Dolgopolov in the round of 16.

While Nadal is the heavy favorite for this match and rightfully so, Rublev does have the requisite firepower to take it to the Spaniard, especially if Rafa starts losing depth on his groundstrokes, which sometimes happens on hard courts. Nerves may be an issue for the youngster, but he’s held his composure remarkably well this whole tournament, so we hope he does the same today and gives us a great match with the possibility for an upset.

This should be a terrific match, so follow our live coverage in the comment section below and chime in with any thoughts of your own!
